Roulette
Roulette is a very popular casino game. A croupier turns a round roulette wheel which has 37 or 38 separately numbered pockets in which a ball must land.
The main pockets are numbered from 1 to 36 alternate between red and black, but the pockets are not in numerical order around the wheel, and there are instances of consecutive numbers being the same color. There is also a pocket numbered 0, and in most roulette wheels in the United States, there is a second pocket marked 00. If a player bets on a single number and wins, the payout is 35:1, meaning that for each dollar bet, one wins an additional $35.00.
There are two types of roulette, American and European. The difference between the two is the number of 0's on the wheel. American roulette wheels have two "0's", zero and double-zero, which increase the house advantage to 5.3%. In European roulette there is only one zero, giving the house an advantage of 2.7%. Split: a bet on two adjoining numbers, either on the vertical or horizontal (as in 14-17 or 8-9). The chip is placed on the edge between these numbers. Payout is 17:1
Street: a bet on three numbers on a single horizontal line. The chip is placed on the edge of the number at the left or the right, depending on the layout. Payout is 11:1
Corner: a bet on four numbers in a square layout (as in 11-12-14-15). The chip is placed at the horizontal and vertical intersection of these numbers. Payout is 8:1
Sixline: a bet on two adjoining streets, with the chip placed at the corresponding intersection (as in 25-30). Payout is 5:1
Column: a bet on all 12 numbers on any of the three vertical lines (such as 1-4-7-10 on down to 34). The chip is placed on the space below the final number in this string. Payout is 2:1
Colour: Black or Red. Payout is 1:1
Odd/Even: Odd or Even. Payout is 1:1
Low/High: Low (1-18) or High (19-36). Payout is 1:1

Understanding odds and house edge
If you bet on the flip of a coin, the probability of heads or tails is 50-50. This would be an even money bet.
